Outdoor Learning Environment: A New Space for Growth and Discovery in Northumberland

The Outdoor Learning Environment, a specialised educational facility in the field of inclusive education and outdoor learning, has opened in Northumberland with a funding boost of £16,000. This project, aimed at creating a safe and welcoming space for students to engage with nature and develop life skills, is set to have a significant impact on the local community.

Barndale House School is dedicated to providing high-quality education in an environment where different abilities and individuality are accepted, respected, and celebrated. This new project reflects the school’s commitment to fostering inclusion and holistic development.

This new outdoor learning environment, which opened in October 2024, provides a calming and out-of-this-world setting designed to help students connect, relax, and explore in a supportive space.

The project was generously funded by a Wooden Spoon Charity grant. Wooden Spoon supports Barndale House School’s dedication to creating safe and inclusive spaces that foster wellbeing, growth, and skill development.
