Chestnut Lodge Playground: A Haven for Inclusive Play in Merseyside

The Chestnut Lodge Playground, a play area initiative in the field of special education and accessibility, has opened in Merseyside with a funding boost of £20,000. This project, aimed at creating an inclusive and engaging outdoor environment for children with complex physical, medical, and learning difficulties, is set to have a significant impact on the local community.

Chestnut Lodge School, a Community Special School, serves pupils aged 2-16 with complex physical and medical difficulties and/or cognition and learning challenges. The school also welcomes nursery-age children and vulnerable two-year-olds in mainstream places, ensuring a diverse and supportive learning environment.

This new play area, which opened in February 2024, provides a calming and enriching environment designed to help children of all abilities connect, relax, and explore in a supportive space.

The project was generously funded by a Wooden Spoon Charity grant. Wooden Spoon supports Chestnut Lodge School’s dedication to creating safe and inclusive spaces that foster wellbeing and growth.
