Simultaneous attempts to set the Guinness World Record for the longest games of both men’s and women’s rugby in Dublin, meet on 17th, match starts 18th ends 19th June 2025. 20th June is press and celebration day.
Ahead of the 2025 Lions Tour to Australia, in the days before the Pumas Test Match in Dublin, British & Irish Lion Trust Charity Partners: Looseheadz and Wooden Spoon will attempt to set the Guinness World Record for the Longest Games of Rugby by playing for 36 hours and in doing so raising over £100,000 through the power of rugby to tackle mental health and support children and young people who are disabled disadvantaged or vulnerable.
This once in a lifetime experience is open to just 92 players. Two women’s teams of 23 players and two men’s teams of 23 players
Pay the deposit now to make yourself available for selection – the selection process will include:
- Providing information regarding general health, rugby experience and commitment to fundraising.
- Attending a trials day, where players will demonstrate basic rugby and fitness skills.
- Selected players will need to provide a medical note from their doctor confirming they are fit to play.
Here’s the Game Plan:
You’ll arrive on Tuesday evening at the team hotel for a full briefing with kick off at 8am on Wednesday morning, you’ll play in rotation, so you’ll be able to get some rest, with play continuing through Wednesday overnight on flood lit pitches with the games estimated to finish at 6pm on Thursday evening. Stamina is more important than skill, we’ll mix the teams to ensure similar abilities.
Post game – Well-earned sleep will follow a Champagne celebration ahead of the big Lions vs. Pumas game on Friday evening and your half time walk onto the pitch as a record-breaker.
You won’t be alone – physios, medics and our chefs will fuel you and keep you in shape to keep you going until the end. Famous Ex-Lions will lead you as Team Managers, Referees, Touch-judges and Water Carriers for pep talks and extra motivation. For today you are the stars.
