Hemel top leaderboard at Rugby Clubs’ Golf Championship

HEMEL Hempstead RFC secured bunker-evading bragging rights by topping the leaderboard at the Wooden Spoon National Rugby Clubs’ Golf Championship.

Proving to be as proficient at pitching and putting as scrummaging and mauling, the Hertfordshire club’s team of four carded an impressive 121 points during the keenly-contested tournament, which was held at Henley Golf Club and raised more than £2,000 for the children’s charity of rugby.

Representatives from 17 different clubs swung into action at the Ping and MRIB Group-sponsored stableford event, with East Grinstead RFC closest to catching the eventual champions with a tally of 119 points.

Of the three Wooden Spoon partner clubs showing their flair on the fairways, Park House FC enjoyed the best rub of the green finishing eighth ahead of Dartfordians RFC in 11th and Banbury RFC’s A and B teams, who claimed 17th and 14th respectively.

At the wrong end of the table, Richmond RFC (pictured) carded 85 points to take the wooden spoon and were only narrowly beaten by sponsors MRIB.

Wooden Spoon would like to thank all those who played their part in making the day a huge success and hopes to see the clubs return to the tee for a children’s charity of rugby event in the near future.
