Golfers score super sum

INCLEMENT weather failed to dampen spirits as players raised £4,700 for the children’s charity of rugby at Wooden Spoon Eastern Counties’ sixth annual Golf Day.

A total of 72 golfers took to the fairways of Stoke by Nayland Golf Club to take part in the popular event, with Martin Spurr scoring 39 points to be crowned as the day’s individual winner.

The keenly-contested team competition saw the top three spots occupied by entrants who have supported each of the six golf days. Martin Spurr, John Robertson, Phil Twogood and Ian Richards finished first, with SWM second and Greene King third.

The day’s sporting contest was followed by a three-course dinner attended by 92 people and featuring a speech from special guest Ian Richards. A raffle and auction, in which a British & Irish Lions shirt and ball from the New Zealand touring party fetched £750.00, helped to generate even more vital funds.
