Welsh garden blooms
YOUNGSTERS attending a specialist autism unit in the Welsh county of Ceredigion can now play and learn in more salubrious surroundings thanks to a five-figure grant. The Wooden Spoon Wales project opening at Canolfan Y Mor was attended by staff, students, parents, local dignitaries and Dafydd Jones.
The outdoor area at Canolfan Y Mor, which is part of the Ysgol Gyfun Aberaeron school campus, has been extended and transformed beyond recognition by the £10,000 donation.
Previously just patches of concrete and grass, the redesigned land now comprises a split-level garden, two vegetable patches, storage shed and outside play kitchen. There is also a large grassed area with climbing frames and hard surface for scooters.
The play area was officially opened by former Scarlets and Wales star Dafydd Jones, who was joined by staff, students, parents and local dignitaries, including the mayor and Welsh Assembly Member Elin Jones.
