Tom Guest opens new project for Wooden Spoon Chilterns
ChilternsTom Guest attended the official opening of a cardio wall for children with special educational needs in Maidenhead.
The new project was opened on the 9th May by the London Irish star, who recently announced his retirement from professional rugby.
The project opening unveiled a new interactive fitness wall, which was built with a grant from Wooden Spoon Chilterns and the Shanley Foundation.
The Chilterns region of Wooden Spoon generously donated £10,000 towards the project, which will be put to good use by the pupils of Manor Green School.
Manor Green School is a Special Educational Needs School funded by the Royal Borough of Windsor in Maidenhead.
The school has 230 pupils in attendance from 4-16 years, all of whom have more than one need. One of their aims is to develop the independence skills for young people with learning disabilities to the highest possible level, by providing high quality sensory facilities for use by young people, their families and community groups.
The cardio wall will provide a motivational game wall designed to make exercises stimulating and fun. The wall is particularly well suited to people with disabilities, both for encouraging physical exercise and for use in specific courses of physical therapy or cognitive stimulation.
Ania Hildrey, head teacher, said: “It is a joy to see learning coming to life and our students getting so much out of this great resource.
“I would like to extend our warmest thanks to Wooden Spoon for their kind generosity and to thank our VIP guests, including Tom Guest for being part of today; this is a fantastic resource that will support the development of all our young people for many years to come.”
A special thanks to the Maidenhead Advertiser (Baylis Media Ltd) for the use of their image.
