STARS Edible Playground
Surrey
Wooden Spoon Surrey provided a grant towards an edible playground at Sutton Tuition & Reintegration Unit (STARS). STARS is a Medical Pupil Referral Unit for 11-16 year olds who are unable to attend school for medical reasons.
The edible playground will offer an engaging, multi-sensory way to learn about growing and eating healthy food, following the process from seed to plate. The food grown will be eaten by the children, & used to promote school wide healthy eating. It will also support a GCSE in Food Preparation and Nutrition, & the school’s eating disorder clinic.
The garden will include an outdoor classroom, a shed, compost area, tools and fruit trees, as well as raised beds to ensure wheelchair users can fully participate in the program.
