In April 2015, Wooden Spoon successfully tackled an epic challenge with a group of intrepid adventurers – The Arctic Rugby Challenge.
Former Rugby Union Internationals Ollie Phillips and Tim Stimpson led two teams who trekked over 60 miles across arctic ice to the 1996 Magnetic North Pole, surviving harrowing winds, avoiding polar bears and facing temperatures of -30 degrees.
Once at the Magnetic North Pole, our brave challengers created a pitch and played a full 7-a-side rugby match – setting a new Guinness World Record™ for the northernmost rugby match in history. This once in a lifetime experience raised over £200,000 of vital funds for Wooden Spoon, supporting life-changing projects across the UK and Ireland to help disadvantaged and disabled children and young people.
