Ulster Barbarians

Formed in April 2013 Ulster Barbarians Wheelchair Rugby Club is the third such club in Ireland, and the only in Northern Ireland.

Prior to the formation of the club, the Ulster Barbarians had three players travelling to Dublin every week to train with the Gaelic Warriors, based in Clontarf.

The club knew from playing the Irish League in the Antrim Forum and from the Spinal Unit at Musgrove Park Hospital that there were plenty of potential players who would provide merit for developing a club in Northern Ireland, which would save the trekkers a four-hour drive for a two-hour session, despite their commitment.

They used this commitment to forge a new club in the North and, with the help of the Gaelic Warriors and Deirdre Mongan who joined them. The first committee was formed in a changing room in Dublin and have been rolling ever since.

In the last two years the club has travelled to Cologne, Germany to play in a tournament in Liverpool and Newcastle and will also be taking the young players over to Cardiff in September to play against the Ospreys.

The Ulster Barbarians hope to join the GB League next year.
