Rugby Legend Simon Shaw Headlines Charity Lunch at The Woodlands
On Friday March 1st, a true giant of rugby visited The Woodlands. Simon Shaw’s career straddled the amateur and professional eras, he won 71 caps for England over the course of 16 years and played on 3 British & Irish Lions tours 12 years apart.
Shawsey’s presence at the club at the 7th Wooden Spoon & Fylde Charity Lunch, along with top MC, Pete Emmett, our own rugby great, Sir Bill Beaumont, and Everton and England footballing legend, Peter Reid, helped us to raise a record amount for Wooden Spoon Lancashire.
Over the course of 7 years, in excess of £80,000 has been raised at these events to assist with Wooden Spoon projects locally and to positively transform the lives of children and young people with disabilities or facing disadvantage. All through the power of the rugby network and connections.
The club has also benefitted from additional revenue and the opportunity to gain new patrons. Each one of these events has become part of the history of the club, and the brilliant ex-players that we have been lucky enough to spend time with, still feature in bar-room conversations whenever we Fylde fans and Wooden Spoon supporters meet up.

It is especially pleasing as well to hear stories each year of guests who had not been to Fylde before, nor were they fans of rugby in general, who have been converted and intend to come back and enjoy our unique atmosphere and entertainment.
The organisers wish to thank the sponsors, Tower Insurance and Simpson Judge, together with Seneca Partners and Handelsbanken, and all who donated prizes.
Thanks also to our special guests, the team at Fylde for their hard work, both in the build-up to the event and with the hospitality on the day, and all of the attendees who donated so generously
via raffle and auction to help make the event a great success,
