Alnwick RFC Santa Run in aid of Wooden Spoon Northumberland
On Sunday 3 December Alnwick RFC Mini’s & Juniors organised a Santa Run around Alnwick raising over £1,000 for main charity partner Wooden Spoon Northumberland. 150 ‘Santas’ took on the 5k challenge with a wide range of outfits and costumes on display.
With a Christmas market, music and mulled wine the event was a huge success, thoroughly enjoyed by us all and even Spoony made an appearance donning his Santa hat and limited-edition Northumberland Wooden Spoon bucket hat over each ear.
The event was cleverly organised and promoted to all types of organisations in the area.
There was an entrance fee a portion of which passed to WS, a portion towards the M&J tour Fund. Each organisation taking part could then obtain sponsorship for their own fundraising – Taking part were members of the local running, swimming, football clubs and well as representatives from the RNLI and, of course, Wooden Spoon -well done to our very own Social Media Elf, Ian Dawson, who successfully took part and has been proudly displaying his medal ever since.
This was the first of its kind in Alnwick and it is hoped it will be an annual event and that the partnership with WS will continue.
The event helped raise the profile of WS Northumberland, provided a platform for a thank you to the local community for their continued support and enabled us to announce the funding of a project in Alnwick itself at Barndale School.
Wooden Spoon Northumberland Chairman Iain Stewart said –
“Alnwick RFC have been huge supporters of WS Northumberland for many years and this event was further demonstration of their innovate fundraising ideas – the Mini and Juniors section kindly chose WS as their partner charity. For us to be able to fund a project in Alnwick itself, at Barndale School, will only strengthen the bond further”.
