Fylde Rugby Community Tag Festival a Roaring Success

Supported by a £1,200 grant from Wooden spoon Lancashire, The Fylde Rugby Community Foundation delivered their first Wooden Spoon MLD/SLD KS3 Tag Rugby Festival on the 19th of May 2022 with Fylde Rugby Club as the venue.

Due to the funding provided, the Foundation, which aims to make rugby accessible to all children whatever their background, were able to deliver the MLD/SLD KS3 Tag Rugby Festival and provide a fantastic day for all the children.

The competition was a great success with 9 schools, and around 100 children with moderate and severe learning disabilities, all taking part in tag rugby games throughout the day.

With the sun shining, children attending from specialist schools across the Northwest took part in a group staged tag rugby competition. There was a lot of great rugby on show from all teams and players involved with everyone enjoying a jam-packed sporting day!

Wendy Gaskell from Red Rose School in Lytham commented, “A big thanks goes to The Fylde Rugby Community Foundation for a great day, my kids loved it. It is wonderful to see them enjoying sport so much. Fabulous event and so accessible for our children.”

Special guest Wooden Spoon Lancashire Chairman and Fylde Rugby Community Foundation trustee Martin Long attended the event to hand out medals to all players involved and award the cup to the winning team, Broadfield Specialist School, Accrington.
