New Wooden Spoon-supported Play Park at Space & Broomhouse Hub
A £25,000 grant from Wooden Spoon Scotland contributed towards the new play park and pizza oven at the Space & Broomhouse Hub in Edinburgh.
The Space & Broomhouse Hub are a community anchor organisation supporting 100’s of local people and families in South West Edinburgh, with some of their services stretching city wide.
The hub is home to 50 staff who work across their services and projects supporting groups including children, young people, families, older people, people with dementia and carers. Space & Broomhouse Hub’s services include one to one support and group activities as well as a popular community café.
In a report we recently received from The Space & Broomhouse Hub, they provided an update on the project, saying:
“The play park was completed in February 2020 by Caledonia Play Ltd. We took the opportunity to invite the staff team and a few volunteers to have the first viewing of the park on a gorgeous winter afternoon – as you can see from the photos, it was much enjoyed!”
“Happily, the park has been accessible throughout the pandemic aside from just a couple of months where we were required to close it by the Council (due to transmission of COVID).”
“It has been so well used by children of all ages. Most heart-warming are the little ones playing out their stories of ‘cowboys and Indians’ using the wooden train, hiding below the slide and rapping out the sound of the train on the bongos or rain drum!”
“We have not been able to progress the install of the pizza oven but now, in August 2021, this will be the next phase, and we will be engaging with children, young people and families in our communities to help in the design and decoration of this installation.”
“Whilst we have spent your funding on the play park, groundworks and pizza oven, Wooden Spoon will be attributed to all works for the rear courtyard once the project is finally completed. We will of course send you pictures and updates as work progresses.”
