Captain’s Fundraiser with Altitude
ON THURSDAY 4th July, 70 guests joined us for an intimate gathering to celebrate the achievements of our LMAX Exchange Everest rugby challengers and raised in the region of £20,000 for Wooden Spoon.
At the M-restaurant in the heart of the city of London, our four captains from the challenge: Lee Mears, Tamara Taylor, Ollie Phillips and Shane Williams MBE treated our guests to what it was really like on Mount Everest and the trip. The Q & A was led by Andy Gomarsall MBE who took questions from the floor and was a very entertaining host. The captains regaled the guests with funny stories – the highs of the trip but also gave a stark account of how tough it was on the mountain and an insight into those dark moments when altitude sickness, illness and tiredness took hold.
Thank you to our rugby hero captains who have offered their time to raise funds. The auction list was as follows :
Train with Tamara Taylor; Play a round of golf with Lee Mears; Shane Willliams MBE to speak at your event and climb a mountain with Ollie Phillips.
The £20,000 raised will go toward the total of the LMAX Exchange Everest rugby challenge and will help to ensure that we can continue to support projects such as this right across the UK and Ireland. This year and over the coming years we want to support even more children and young people, making sure we get help to those most in need.
If you would still like to donate to the LMAX Exchange Rugby Challenge or to Wooden Spoon, go to our Donate page, select “one-off donation” and include “Captains Fundraiser” in the notes section.
