Back to School success

WOODEN Spoon Worcestershire’s Second Annual Quiz Night took on a very scholarly “Back to School” theme with 30 teams of 5 competitors donned in short trousers, stripy ties and some in pigtails at Worcester RFC on 16 May raising over £2,000 for local charities to benefit disadvantaged children.

In recent years, funding from Wooden Spoon Worcester has supported projects for an outdoor classroom, an interactive roadway and a sensory garden.

The Quiz night took on a “Back to School” theme with exams in Geography, History, Maths and Science.

Following the taking of the Class Register by Quiz master and Headmaster Jon Fraser, the ‘students’ settled in for various examinations including Geography, History, Maths and Science, with additional Homework papers also required to be submitted.

The questions were all displayed on the Headmaster’s digital blackboard and several on-screen surprises occurred throughout the night as various people appeared on video including the Dean of Worcester to introduce the R.E. exam and rugby legend Martin Johnson to wish students good luck with their P.E. studies. The Headmaster kept some old-school discipline throughout the night, brandishing his cane when necessary.

At the end of examinations the Headmaster revealed the teams winning Top of the Class, Best Dressed and Bottom of the Class, who respectively received Dunce’s caps. The evening was closed with a singalong of Alice Cooper’s ‘School’s Out’ after local Wooden Spoon Chairman John Gibson said “An entertaining and educational night was had by all, whilst raising a significant amount of money for local causes”.

Our thanks go to quiz sponsors BRI Wealth Management, whose Director, Vince Hopkins is also a Wooden Spoon Committee Member. The quiz will return with another themed evening next year.
