First Speak-a-thon is a triumph

THE first ever Wooden Spoon Speak-a-thon took place at the end of May, raising over £10,000 to support disabled and disadvantaged children and young people in each participating region.

The former Bristol, Saracens and Rugby World Cup winning, England scrum half Kyran Bracken, who is also a celebrated motivational and after dinner speaker, gave his time freely to make the first ever Wooden Spoon Speak-a-thon possible.

Across four nights in Essex, Hertfordshire, Kent and Sussex, Kyran took on the role of auctioneer and entertained guests with very funny accounts of his career both on the playing field and ice rink. At the end of the evening, guests were invited to face and catch his famous BULLET PASS, high and low points captured on a video:

Wooden Spoon’s National Rugby Manager, Matt Mitchell co-ordinated the Speak-a-thon series said, “It was a privilege to host Kyran, who has proved himself as a top after dinner speaker. It is great to see former top rugby players helping to promote traditional rugby values and generously connecting with the rugby family at Wooden Spoon events.”
