Annual Luncheon raises £30,000 in Lancashire
THE 20th Wooden Spoon Lancashire West Coast luncheon took place at The Village Hotel in Blackpool on Friday 16th November attended by 400 guests and sponsored by Canaccord Genuity Wealth Management, who had recently acquired the previous event sponsors Hargreave Hale.
The guest speaker was Jason Leonard OBE, England’s most capped rugby player, supported by comedian Josh Daniels, tenor Martin Toal and fiddler Richard Sanderson, with Master of Ceremonies Joey Blower.
Teenager Gerard Feeney of Blackpool South Shore Academy gave a moving account of how local charity The Boathouse Youth, a charity supported by Wooden Spoon Lancashire, had helped him deal with the difficult circumstances in which he lived.
Honorary President Bill Beaumont CBE made a presentation to one of Wooden Spoon Lancashire’s major patrons, Michael Hyman of Leonard Dews, who this year very kindly donated a Tag Heuer watch and two diamond pendants to the auction. During the last 10 years, Michael has contributed in excess of £30,000 to the charity.
Wooden Spoon Lancashire Chairman Martin Long would like to extend a huge thank you to those who supported this year’s event and who have enabled a further £30,000 to be invested in future projects benefiting children and young people with disabilities and facing disadvantage in the region.
