New Mobility Scheme for Churchill Park Academy

Churchill Park - DriveDeck - project opening

DriveDeck mobility in action.

THE DriveDeck mobility project at Churchill Park Academy in Kings Lynn was officially opened on 16 November 2018 by representatives from Wooden Spoon Eastern Counties.

The system of special mobile tacking system, devised by Roger Dakin of Smile Smart Technology, allows youngsters in wheelchairs who don’t have yet the capability or use of electric wheelchairs to access all parts of the school and gives them greater independence. Once up on the deck platform the youngsters can guide themselves along the track using their chin or elbow on a directional pad.

Roger gave an explanation of the system which is in use in other parts of the world including Australia. Louis gave all the visitors and demonstration of his driving skills and you could see from his broad smiles what a difference this made to him!

Funding for this was provided from monies raised in last year’s Club Together 2017 charity cycle ride. A number of the riders, committee members and volunteers from the ride were there to see for themselves the result of their great efforts.

Wooden Spoon Eastern Counties was represented by Séamus Farrelly (Chairman) and Alan Line (Treasurer).
