The Ulster Annual Dinner
THE WOODEN Spoon Ulster Annual Dinner was a sold out event at the Culloden Hotel with 400 guests in attendance.
Under the superb guidance of Master of Ceremonies Jim Neilly, we first of all heard some great stories from three members of the Irish Women’s Hockey team, Lizzie Colvin, Zoe Wilson and Shirley McCay. The Ireland team won the Silver Medal at the Hockey World Championship in London in August and the stories surrounding the journey, from 15th placed qualifier all the way to the Final, were both illuminating and motivational at the same time.
After that we heard from our Guest of Honour, Joe Schmidt, the Ireland Coach who reflected on his successful time in charge to date and also looked forward to the next 12 months, especially the World Cup in Japan. Joe was a very engaging speaker, showing amazing in depth knowledge of virtually every professional player in Ireland.
Finally, we heard several amusing anecdotes from the recently retired Ulster and Ireland players Tommy Bowe, Andrew Trimble and Paul Marshall about their careers and plans for the future.
The funds raised on the night totalled in excess of £33,000 – a tremendous achievement!
Wooden Spoon Ulster are extremely grateful to all their guests for making this event so special and to all our Corporate Supporters for being so generous.
