An Evening with Sir Michael Parkinson
AN AUDIENCE of 420 enjoyed a charity performance of ‘ An Evening with Sir Michael Parkinson ‘ at Reading Town Hall on Friday 26 October 2018, raising more than £8,000 for Wooden Spoon Chilterns region.
Sir Michael, interviewed by his son, Mike, reflected on more than 50 years in Show business, going back to his roots as a schoolboy in Barnsley, and his childhood and early adult life in a mining community.
The evening included interview clips from Sir Michael’s legendary Saturday Night shows, including James Cagney, Jimmy Stewart, Orson Wells, David Niven, Joan Rivers, Mick Jagger, Billy Connolly, Kenneth Williams, Dame Edna Everage, Rod Hull (with Emu), Michael Caine, Peter Kay, Bing Crosby, David Attenborough, and Sir Bruce Forsyth to mention but a few.
The event was different from many Wooden Spoon events in that the majority of the audience were members of the public who had no knowledge or understanding of the charity, so an excellent opportunity to expand Wooden Spoon awareness within the local community. Their appreciation and generosity was reflected in a bucket collection on exiting the Town Hall, which raised £780.
In addition to Sir Michael and Mike, John Inverdale, the Sports Presenter and Broadcaster, and Honorary President of Wooden Spoon Surrey region, opened and closed the evening on behalf of Wooden Spoon. Our sincere thanks to all three for their time and support in making this event such a success.
