Rugby World Cup winner crowned Scrum Dine With Me 2018 winner
WOODEN Spoon ambassador and Rugby World Cup winner, Andy Gomarsall MBE has been crowned Wooden Spoon Scrum Dine With Me 2018 champion, becoming the ninth amateur cook to claim the title.
In the ninth annual event, held at the Cinnamon Club in London, Wooden Spoon invited personalities from the world of rugby to go against each other in a cook off four-course meal, to raise vital funds for the children’s charity of rugby.
Facing competition from two other competitive contestants, including former Team GB Wheelchair Rugby Captain, Steve Brown and former Wales international John Taylor, Andy won the 100+ strong crowd over with his creation of Guinea Fowl Tikka. The middle dish beat 2017 champion, John Taylor’s take on Kashmiri Rogan Josh Beef Style Curry and Steve Brown’s saffron poached pear with cinnamon ice cream.
Former British and Irish Lions chef, David Campbell and Cinnamon Kitchen Head Chef, Vivek Singh were the judges. Wooden Spoon Ambassador and former Sevens Ace, Ollie Phillips hosted the evening on behalf of Wooden Spoon.
On winning, a jubilant Andy Gomarsall said: “I am so pleased to be crowned this year’s Scrum Dine With Me champion but it’s been a team effort, so thank you to all the team who have helped tonight at The Cinnamon Kitchen. Also thank you to all our supporters who have supported Wooden Spoon tonight. It’s been a great fundraising event.”
The judges congratulated Andy on his ‘crowd-pleasing’ winning dish. Vivek Singh said: “We’ve had some extraordinary amateur chefs work with us tonight. Well done to all of you, particularly Andy on his winning dish.”
Wooden Spoon, Director of Marketing, Communications and Community Investment, Juliette Gillard said: “This has been a really successful event for Wooden Spoon. It’s a great fundraiser, fantastic fun and we have had to sample some really tasty food. Thank you to everyone who has made it a great success.”
