Paul Thorburn opens Outdoor Adventure Play Area

A GLORIOUS day greeted guests and Wales legend, Paul Thorburn at Rhyd y Gors Special school in Carmarthen to open the new Outdoor Adventure Play Area funded by Wooden Spoon Wales.

Rhyd y gors School is a residential and day special school and provides education for up to 54 pupils aged 8 to 16 years. All pupils have special educational needs for social, emotional and behavioural difficulties. In addition, many have additional learning needs including autism, speech and language difficulties and learning difficulties.

The school is unique as it caters for children from Carmarthenshire, Neath/Port Talbot, Swansea, Cardiff and Bridgend. Children are referred via mainstream schools and Rhyd y Gors provides specialist care and support to leave school with an education and aim to re-integrate back to mainstream.

The project was opened by Wales rugby legend Paul Thorburn who delighted the children and some of the older guests with an impromptu game.
