Old Colfeian’s win draw and U18s recognise Wooden Spoon

Old Colfeians draw 2018

PICTURED are tackle shields/pads being used by Old Colfeian RFC members at pre-season training after winning them in a Wooden Spoon Partner Club Draw recently.

They won the pads after responding to a call for partner clubs to display the PCP logo on their website. Old Colfeians who are based in Kent, South East London were drawn from those clubs who qualified by having the logo on display on their website and who entered the competition.

After an unusually unsuccessful 1st XV winning record in the 2017-2018 season Chairman Dave Hodgkiss said “It’s nice to have won something this year! We’re proud to be able to support such a worthwhile cause and see every penny we raise invested  locally to support disabled and disadvantaged children.”

The club recently took part in the Wooden Spoon Kent Club Together Bike Ride and collectively raised more than £4,000 for Wooden Spoon.

Under 18s buy match shirts in aid of Wooden Spoon

After what had been for some squad members fourteen years of participation within the Old Colfeians Minis, Juniors and Academy sections of the Club the under eighteens met together one last time with family and friends to celebrate as a group. They will going forward be part of the senior club and the club is looking forward to their continued participation in the game.

Many great memories and experiences of success and enjoyment were shared and where tour rules allowed moments of high revelry revisited. During the course of the gathering the squad recognised the significant effort put in by their club, coaches and parents in facilitating what had been an extensive period of time spent together whilst participating in the great game of rugby.

In doing so and with all wishing to keep their match shirts as reminders of those good times the squad unanimously agreed that they should give something back to the game and therefore agreed to buy their shirts back with all funds raised being donated to Wooden Spoon.

Steve Edwards said “the lads were proud to raise a total of £200 for this excellent cause.”

We now have 79 partner clubs across England, Scotland and Ireland all entitled to display the logo as a badge of honour. To find out more about our thriving Partner Club Programme take a look at our Rugby Club pages or email rugby@woodenspoon.org.uk  #PCPfamily
