Making a positive change at Ellen Tinkham

FIRST class changing facilities have been created in the hydrotherapy suite at Ellen Tinkham School in Exeter, thanks to a £20,000 donation from Wooden Spoon Devon.

The entire refurbishment project cost almost £200,000, however our early support was crucial in helping the school get their fundraising appeal off the ground and attract the further financial support they needed.

When a fundraising project is begun, there is always the difficulty of convincing potential founders that all the money can be secured and that the plan will come to fruition. Wooden Spoon Devon were happy to help make that happen.

Mr England (aka Pete Cross) performed the opening ceremony on 16th April 2018, when staff and pupils proudly showed off their hydrotherapy pool with its new and improved changing facilities, tracking, music and lighting system.

It is clear that being in the pool is one of the highlights of the children’s day. The staff love the new changing rooms as they were previously changing the children in cramped and precarious conditions on the poolside with only shower curtains around for privacy.

Ellen Tinkham project opening

Sharp eyed readers might notice some disparity between this report and the commemorative plaque on the wall in the accompanying picture. Like so many things this year which have been disrupted by unusually bad winter weather, our original opening date was cancelled when both Exeter and Ellen Tinkham School ground to a halt due to heavy snow!
