Cornwall dinner welcomes Jack Nowell
THE Wooden Spoon Cornwall Dinner at the Hotel Bristol in Newquay was another great success. Hosted by their chairman Alan Milliner, the evening was a celebration of the wonderful projects and events they have supported and hosted this past year, including the Curnow Special School garden.
Alan was also delighted to announce that Jack Nowell (Exeter Chief/England/Lions player and most importantly Cornish boy) had very kindly agreed be an ambassador/champion for Wooden Spoon Cornwall. This is fantastic news for the region as it will help with raising the profile of the charity locally.
John Sumnall then explained Wooden Spoon Cornwall region ambitions for the coming year, which included supporting the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) project. A purpose built unit being constructed and a much needed facility in Cornwall.
The auction and raffle at the diner generated some welcome funds and special thanks goes to those who so generously donated including:
- St Austell Brewery
- The Co-Operative
- Lanhydrock Hotel and Golf Club
- Skinners Brewery
The evening was brilliantly topped off by guest speaker and past England captain ‘DG’ himself, Mr Phil de Glanville. He gave a wonderful insight into his auspicious rugby career, with many entertaining stories and tales. Phil then spent the rest of the evening chatting and sharing memories with guests. A perfect celebration.
A massive ‘thank-you’ to all who supported the event. Here’s to 2018!
