35th Anniversary Rugby Ball Dazzles

AT THE start of our 35th anniversary year, more than 400 guests joined us at the Hilton on Park Lane for Wooden Spoon’s annual flagship event, The Rugby Ball. We are delighted that together we raised more than £120,000 from the event.

Since our funding we have distributed in excess of £24 million to more than 650 projects, helping over one million children and young people. During the last year alone the 70 projects approved will support more than 150,000 beneficiaries, which is a significant increase on the year before.

The much-needed funds raised at the Rugby Ball will help to ensure that we can continue to support projects right across the UK and Ireland. With research showing that 1 in 20 children in the UK have a disability and 3.5 million children are living in poverty, the funds raised will go a long way in helping more children and young people with a disability or facing disadvantage across the UK and Ireland.

It is only through the tireless support and dedication of the rugby family that we are able to continue to meet this need. The Rugby Ball celebrated the work of our volunteers and the many supporters who make enormous contributions to Wooden Spoon. In particular, the evening acknowledged corporate sponsors TNT who in their 21 years of support have contributed £4 million and also Rugbytots and Champagne Academy for their generous donations on the night.

Our thanks go to all the Rugby Ball event sponsors, Wooden Spoon ambassadors, and to those who kindly donated raffle and auction prizes without whom the evening would not have been possible.
