Rugby Legends Battle it Out in the Kitchen

FOUR of rugby’s finest traded in their rugby shirts for chef’s jackets in October as they came together with culinary masters for Wooden Spoon’s unique fundraiser, Scrum Dine With Me at the distinguished Cinnamon Kitchen in London.

In the kitchen defending his title was former Ireland and Lions centre Rob Henderson, who was joined by England’s 2010 Women’s Rugby World Cup Captain Catherine Spencer, former Wales and Lions legend John Taylor, and England Rugby Sevens Captain Ollie Phillips. Each player prepared their own dish to showcase their culinary skills.

Guests attending the charity cook-off were tasked with judging the dishes, aided by the expert opinions of the judging panel which featured Cinnamon Kitchen’s very own CEO and Executive Chef, Vivek Singh; the renowned MasterChef television presenter Gregg Wallace; and BBC2’s The Great British Menu competitor and Michelin star winner Adam Simmonds. Keeping them all in check was the MC for the evening and Wooden Spoon Lead Ambassador, Phil Vickery MBE DL.

By the end of the evening, John Taylor was the very well deserved victor and took home the Scrum Dine With Me™ trophy. We are delighted that he will be returning next year on 9th October 2018 to defend his title!

The event proved a huge success, with a fantastic £20,000 raised which will go towards life-changing projects across the UK and Ireland to benefit children and young people with disabilities or facing disadvantage. Projects funded include respite and medical treatment centres, sensory rooms, specialist playgrounds and community-based programmes.
