Call for West Midlands and Warwickshire volunteers

WOODEN Spoon, the children’s charity of rugby, is calling for volunteers in the West Midlands and Warwickshire areas to help support the growth of its relationships with community rugby clubs via its Partner Club Programme.

Open to all rugby clubs in the UK and Ireland, the Wooden Spoon Partner Club Programme works with community rugby clubs to secure income for both the charity and the rugby club through joint fundraising initiatives.

Wooden Spoon uses the income raised to fund life-changing projects in the rugby club’s local area that support children with disabilities or are facing disadvantage.

To date, the Wooden Spoon Partner Club Programme has been a great success already signing up 56 rugby clubs and in the last year raising more than £30,000 towards changing the lives of local children with disabilities or living in disadvantage.

Now Wooden Spoon is looking to expand the programme and is looking for local volunteers to support the charity by managing and coordinating its fundraising with local rugby clubs.

Wooden Spoon Rugby Manager, Matt Mitchell said: “The Partner Club volunteer role is a crucial part of our plan to ensure we can support more disabled and disadvantaged children across the UK and Ireland.   Strong, long-term and meaningful connections between Wooden Spoon and local rugby clubs are vital.  With support from the Wooden Spoon family, our new volunteers will help develop and nurture links with representatives from local rugby clubs to create plans that help raise funds and awareness for both the rugby club and Wooden Spoon.”

The commitment required from volunteers will vary depending on the number of club relationships identified and each club’s action plan.  Wooden Spoon’s regional teams, supported by our Ambassadors, will help identify the clubs who need support.  It is a voluntary role, which can be undertaken from a home base and will require travel across adefined Wooden Spoon region.
