A Day at the Races with Gloucester Wooden Spoon

14th March saw 260 guests attend the Wooden Spoon Race Day in a private marquee overlooking the famous Cheltenham Racecourse  on the first day of the National Hunt Festival. This was the fourth time the Gloucester region had organised this event which was again a great success.

All the guests enjoyed a 3 course lunch followed by afternoon tea and following the final race the guests then enjoyed the music of the Kim Cypher Band. The day included a raffle, silent auction and live auction, with Rob York acting as MC having organised the event.

Gloucester regional chairman Tim Heal commented “The day was a a fantastic success, with guests having lots of fun and very importantly raising in excess of £10,000 towards our local fundraising. My congratulations and thanks particularly to Rob York who virtually single-handed  arranged such a wonderful day for everyone attending”

The event was attended by Becky Stroud-King, the daughter of Martin “Speedy” Roberts, who with her colleague Jamie Gamble is running the London Marathon memory of her father . Martin sadly passed away last year at the young age of only 48. Becky and Jamie are running in support of Wooden Spoon the Children’s Charity of Rugby, and their attendance helped raise the profile of  their efforts and to fund raise on the day.

The Gloucester region of Wooden Spoon have recently  opened local projects such as this one locally.
