Fantastic 6 Nations Dinner raises £6,500

Six Nations Dinner Held in South Yorkshire/North Derbyshire raised a superb amount of £6500 for Wooden Spoon.

Another brilliant evening at Baldwins Omega with 180 guest for whom MC Roger Dakin kept the event flowing beautifully with his usual combination of amusing asides and ability to coax participants to part with their money in aid of our cause.

This year as usual, the Chairman of the Yorkshire Region, Stuart Watson, got proceedings underway by illustrating some of the excellent work that Wooden Spoon has supported in the region, reminding everyone of the importance of this work as the reason for why we come together annually to celebrate the new 6 Nations series.

As the dinner progressed, between every two of the 6 courses, Roger gathered everyone together for ‘Heads & Tails’ and drove the live auction which was very well supported by everyone.

The top table was as convivial as ever with speakers Andy Nichol and Geoff Miller great company for Stuart and other representatives of the Yorkshire committee along with Dave Watson who in claiming ‘organisers prerogative’ managed to squeeze his old playing partner Nigel Parsons onto the table, there being no room anywhere else!

Over coffee and other appropriate beverages for the time of the evening Andy got the speeches underway with the perfect balance of personal rugby reminisces and a thoughtful forecast for the 6 Nations series swiftly followed by Geoff who delighted the assembly with tales of being on the wrong end of fast bowlers in Ashes Tests.

Our thanks go to all of the team that helped on the evening, the Baldwins staff who were as amazing as ever to Roger, Andy and Geoff for giving us such and enjoyable time and last but not least to our Table Sponsors and guests without whom none of this would be possible.
