Wooden Spoon Merseyside made an early start on the Christmas celebrations with its seventh annual lunch, held on 2nd December at Anfield, home of Liverpool Football Club, in ‘The Beautiful Game’ suite.

This sparkling venue, providing panoramic views across the city, attracted over two hundred guests for a full afternoon of entertainment. Guest enjoyed an excellent meal, accompanied by specially chosen ‘Reds’ Christmas crackers.

Dual international and former BBC commentator Ray French was the MC, welcoming guest speaker Gary Rees, Nottingham and England back row forward who had a wealth of stories from his international career – Will Carling’s era had a prominent place among the anecdotes!

Comedian Bill Woolland back by popular demand from the 2015 lunch, rounded off a lively three hours before a draw, auction and grand raffle providing some spectacular prizes.

Our committee were delighted to raise over £8500 on the night. Committee member and organiser Dave Reed said: “A fine total and one to build on for 2017 by continuing to keep in touch with both the regular and new guests.”
