Wooden Spoon Surrey unveil new Community Cafe for special needs school

PUPILS, staff and mayors (yes, three!) joined Wooden Spoon Surrey Honorary President, John Inverdale, as they opened the Philip Southcote School Community Cafe at the special school in Addlestone, Surrey. The Wooden Spoon Community Café received £20,000 from Wooden Spoon Surrey, which was put towards the construction and the equipping of the Café.

Older pupils will have the opportunity to prepare food and drinks and serve the customers, providing life skills and essential work experience. Open every day, the Cafe will be used by parents, staff, drivers of the school minibuses and many members of the public who visit the school to use the swimming pool and specialised play and exercise equipment.

The day ended with a touching moment, as pupils presented John with a cheque for £242.74 which they had worked hard to raise to say ‘thank you’ to Wooden Spoon Surrey for the grant.
