Wooden Spoon Shropshire’s Annual Golf Day

Wooden Spoon Shropshire hosted their annual golf day at Shropshire Golf Centre, Muxton on September 9th 2016, with the day proving a huge success.

After the players had fueled themselves for the day with bacon sandwiches and coffee, the 18 teams took to the course with a Shotgun Start ahead of tee off.

After completing the course, the teams returned to the club for quality food, entertaining presentations and prize-giving with an informative speech from Nigel Redman serving to complete the occasion. Wooden Spoon Shropshire were honoured to have the company of two Wooden Spoon Members and Presidents of their respective RFU’s – Judith Phelps of Shropshire RFU and Becky Davies of Staffordshire RFU.

Captain of the Shropshire Rebels Tag Ruby Team, Sam Edgley and Jonathan Edwards, who takes part in Wooden Spoon Shropshire’s Specialised Golf Lessons, were on hand to present the prizes, with Strutt and Parker crowned the winning team.

The event also saw a new annual award being presented for Volunteer of the Year, in memory of and named after Ben Winson, a keen Wooden Spoon Shropshire Member and supporter. This prestigious award was presented to Mike Edwards, Wooden Spoon Shropshire’s Treasurer and Golf Day organiser for the last ten years.

The event proved a huge success, from the ‘non-combative golf styles’ to everyone’s support and generosity in supporting the evening auction which offered a myriad of prized, superbly led by Tim Stimpson.
