From rugby balls to golf balls at Wooden Spoon Sussex Golf Day

Rugby clubs in the Sussex region replaced their rugby balls with golf balls on Thursday 16th June to take part in the Sussex Rugby Golf Championship.

The event, which took place at Mid Sussex Golf Club, near Ditchling, saw 16 teams of 4 players take part, raising just over £1,800 for Wooden Spoon Sussex.

The event proved a huge success with Eastbourne Rugby Club crowned winners of the tournament. Brighton Rugby Club finished just 4 points behind with 76 points and Royal Ashdown Golf Club Ladies team finishing close behind in third place. Doug Kemp of East Grinstead won the Longest Drive competition whilst John Saville of Pullborough won the ‘Nearest Pin’ competition.

Next year’s event will be held on the 15th June 2017 at the same venue and Wooden Spoon Sussex look forward to welcoming regular supporters and new teams, particularly from the ruby clubs in the region.
