Wooden Spoon Northumberland Golf Day 2016

Wooden Spoon Northumberland recently raised a spectacular amount during their annual Golf Day.

This year the event was held on Friday 19th May at Matfen Hall Hotel Golf Club. The region were looked after very well by the team at Matfen Hall and the course was in excellent condition.

Despite some disappointing late withdrawals a healthy total of 18 four man teams competed in a Texas Scramble and some very commendable scores were recorded.

The winning team captained by Chairman Anthony Stoker scored a magnificent gross 60 which included 10 birdies, one eagle and no bogeys. His other players were S Inglis, S Taylor and G Robson.

A splendid 3 course meal followed the golf and a healthy return from a raffle and auction gave the region a surplus on the day of over £5800.

This money could fund three wheelchair hoists to facilitate disabled young people to move as independently as possible within a hospice environment.

Wooden Spoon Northumberland are very grateful to the sponsors Premier Insurance and Dennis Common for their sponsorship of the longest drive and nearest the pin, won by Peter Burn and Michael Liverick.

The region would like to thank the volunteers Alan Moore and Andy Lowe plus the ‘Penny girls’ and committee men Danny Hodgson and John Pearce for all their help.

Wooden Spoon would like to send a sincere thanks also to donors of raffle prizes and auction items and of course to all the players for making the event so successful.
