Region raises over £4,000 on RWC opening weekend

Not one to miss a fantastic rugby tournament and the chance to support disadvantaged and disabled children, our Sussex region hosted fundraising lunches ahead of two nail biting games played at Brighton Amex Stadium during the Rugby World Cup.

Over the two days, nearly 300 Wooden Spoon supporters tucked into an excellent lunch, before heading to the stadium to enjoy the exciting international matches. Guests even included representatives from Japan RFU who were on a fact finding mission for the 2019 Rugby World Cup!

Wooden Spoon Sussex Honorary President and rugby correspondent for The Daily Telegraph, Mick Cleary was joined for a no holds barred Q&A session by special guests Springbok and Saracens Rugby stars Neil de Kock and Ernst Joubert. Neil and Ernst gave their unique insight into the state of rugby here and in South Africa.

Thanks goes to Wooden Spoon Sussex Committee member Alan Jenkins and his wife Elaine for arranging both events, which raised over £4,000 for disadvantaged and disabled children in Sussex.
