‘The Clamp’ Allan Bateman opens latest project from Wooden Spoon Wales

Neath and Ospreys legend Allan Bateman opened a new outdoor teaching facilities at Nantyffyllon Primary School Maesteg for our Welsh region. Wooden Spoon Wales donated £10,000 towards two sustainable outdoor classrooms, which will provide much needed space for teaching and one-to-one tuition for children with complex needs.

Head Teacher Adele Thomas said the new equipment will provide the children with an ‘enhanced learning experience’.

Allan (known as The Clamp for his deadly tackling) started his career at his home town Maesteg (‘The Old Parish’) before moving to Neath, where he won 4 caps for Wales at Rugby Union before going north with Warrington Wolves and winning 13 caps for Wales and 2 for Great Britain. He returned to rugby union after it went professional in 1996 to gain a further 31 Wales caps and one for the British and Irish Lions (1997) playing for Richmond, Northampton, Neath and Maesteg.
