Tim Stimpson and Phil Vickery pitch in at Shropshire golf day

Wooden Spoon Shropshire held their Annual Golf Day at the Shropshire Golf Centre, Muxton, Telford. Honorary President for the region and Former England and British Lion Tim Stimpson led the way on the course, with Wooden Spoon lead Ambassador Phil Vickery representing the charity and speaking at the evening event.

Wooden Spoon Shropshire’s chairman Glyn Dobbs said:”It was a tremendous day and people came from all over the country. We had two teams from London, one team from Manchester and one from Milton Keynes, so it shows the dedication of the people involved with Wooden Spoon that they are prepared to travel so far. Fortunately we also had a good day weather-wise with 15 teams taking part and another 20-or-so coming in the evening to listen to Phil Vickery. It was a great day.”

At the event, Tim and Phil received a cheque for £3,000 from Vicki Hughes, the Golf Club’s Lady Captain, who had adopted Wooden Spoon as her charity for the year, with an objective of giving children with learning difficulties the opportunity to play golf. Vicky said: “We have been members of Wooden Spoon for a number of years and when I became lady captain I needed to select a charity. We always raise money for charity in our captaincy year and it was an obvious choice for me to pick Wooden Spoon. It is a very worth-while cause.”

Our thanks goes to Vicki, Phil, Tim and everyone who attended, making this one of Shropshire’s most successful golf days.
