Rugby legend Shaun Edwards helps Wooden Spoon Cumbria raise funds

In a year which saw the Rugby World Cup hosted in the UK, Wooden Spoon Cumbria celebrated a fantastic year of fundraising as well as sport, at their annual dinner at The Waterhead Hotel in Ambleside.

The dinner was very well attended by supporters of the charity, with guests coming together from across Cumbria, Yorkshire and Lancashire. The special guest speaker was former rugby league legend Shaun Edwards OBE, who provided a first-hand insight into experiencing tournaments as big as a Rugby World Cup.

Wooden Spoon Cumbria Chairman John Cunningham said: “The fundraising we raise on nights like this helps specific projects in Cumbria that directly impact the lives of disadvantaged and disabled children and provides respite to those caring for them”.

Anthony Sutcliffe, Manager of Waterhead and part of Wooden Spoon Cumbria’s committee said hosting the dinner was a great opportunity to welcome guests from neighbouring committees as well as supporters from the rugby community. He added; “Having been a member of Wooden Spoon now for many years supporting the charity through our dinners and other charity events, it is a fantastic way to ensure the region and the charity continues to expand and reach new members”.

The committee were delighted to raise £5,000 on the night which will make a big difference to local projects. Thanks to everyone for supporting Wooden Spoon!
