Joe Mellor and Jamie Carragher open new sensory room for Wooden Spoon Merseyside
Our Merseyside region was delighted to present a cheque for £15,000 towards a new Sensory Room for Northwood Primary School in Kirkby, Liverpool.
Northwood Primary School is a central part of the local community where pupils of all abilities are able to thrive and achieve their full potential. Former Liverpool football star Jamie Carragher and Widnes Vikings vice-captain Joe Mellor had the honour of cutting the ribbon and officially opening the new sensory room.
School Headmaster, Jason Hollywood, said: “This is a superb facility with equipment that will keep everyone’s senses buzzing. From infinity tunnels to projectors, the equipment will help us meet the diverse needs of our pupils across the school, both in the DSP unit and in mainstream. Demand from teachers is very high and one of our most difficult tasks now is working out how to fit everybody in!”
Stan Bagshaw, Regional Chairman for Wooden Spoon Merseyside said: “Northwood Community School needed funding to renovate an old classroom in order to create a modern sensory facility. We visited the school and identified the benefits this would provide to the school children. We were delighted to support the project and attended the unveiling of the new sensory room to see the difference the equipment would make. Thank you to everyone who fundraised for Wooden Spoon in our local area; with the local community’s help we are pleased Northwood pupils are now benefiting from our support.”
Thank you to all those who have supported Wooden Spoon Merseyside and helped make this fantastic project possible.
