Festival of Rugby gets off to a flying start!

The North West Wooden Spoon MLD and SLD Tag Rugby Festivals held at Blackburn RUFC were a resounding success. The festival, which is part of a programme of delivery in special schools, incorporates coaching in schools and local festivals across Lancashire and Cheshire. Wooden Spoon Lancashire has sponsored the event for the past 10 years and has seen thousands of young people with learning difficulties benefiting from being involved in rugby.

The level of skill, commitment and enthusiasm displayed by the 200+ players from 19 schools was encouraging as was the evidence of rugby’s core values of respect, enjoyment, discipline and sportsmanship – as well as Wooden Spoon’s own values of passion, integrity, teamwork, and fun!

The eventual winners of each category were Morecambe Road School from Lancaster who took the MLD title and Melland High School, Manchester who won the SLD event. Sincere thanks to all those who came along and showed support on the day.
