The West Midlands region of Spoon was formed out of the old Midlands region. It has a new committee which meets at the Solihull Raquets Club, Cranmore Boulevard, Solihull.

Chairman, Phil Pemble is keen to add a couple of new members to the committee, making it even stronger and helping to spread the workload. The region is looking to run annually a sporting dinner, a summer ball and a golf day amongst other events.

If anyone can spare a couple of hours, please contact: Phil Pemble on 0121 351 1283 or email: phil.pemble@ppdg.co.uk

David Duckham, Honorary President, Enters PRA Hall of Fame

The Professional Rugby Players' Association held the 8th annual Computacenter Rugby Players' Awards at the Grosvenor House Hotel, London on Wednesday 10th May. This is a unique awards dinner in that the players themselves vote for their chosen players' of the season. Also included at the awards is the induction of former stars of the game into the PRA Barclays Hall of Fame. Three legends of the game where included into the PRA Barclay's Hall of Fame this year: English winger David Duckham, Irish centre Mike Gibson and Scotland and Lions great Ian McGeechan were all honoured for their contributions to the game. The West Midlands Committee would like to congratulate our very own Honorary Regional President, David Duckham, on recognition of his contributions to the game of rugby.

David John Duckham was born in Coventry, June 28, 1946. He spent his club days playing for Coventry for 12 seasons between 1967 and 1979 and was the first team Captain from 1972-74. He also played for Warwickshire and captained the County team in 1972-73 and 1973-74. He made his International debut against Ireland on Saturday, 8th February 1969. David quickly established himself as one of England's best left wingers. In total he won 36 caps between 1969 and 1976, touring to Fiji and NZ in 1973, with his final game being against Scotland at Murrayfield. Overall, he scored 10 tries. He also played for the Lions on the 1971 tour of Australia and New Zealand in the Lions only ever victory over the Kiwis and scored a record six tries in one provincial match. In 1977 David was awarded the MBE for services to rugby and is now a popular after dinner speaker.
