Toy Library Project, Exhall Grange School

Exhall Grange School and Science College (EGSSC) is a maintained Community Special School, with Science College and Sports Mark Gold Status. The school's Mission Statement states that, 'Exhall Grange believes in: Challenging Disability, Equal Rights, Equal Opportunities and Open Access within a Secure Environment'. This mission statement is reflected in all aspects of the school's work with children, families and the wider community. The care and support which pupils with differing disabilities and impairments extend to one another reflects the very positive ethos of the school.

As part of a much broader development, the school is currently working to develop and extend the use of its Toy Library. We aim to extend this project to include a resource, information centre to support parents and carers of children with a wide range of disabilities and impairments. The vision is that parents will have easily accessible advice and resources. This wider vision will be achieved in partnership with the Local Authority low-incidence needs support service and will enhance the Children's Centre developments.

Toys and equipment will be borrowed by children, parents and professionals to support the development of play and social skills. Support will be provided to help people to develop parenting skills and to meet the often complex needs of their individual children. Children attending the school and those within the local area who attend other special or mainstream schools will all be able to access the Toy Library. Pre-school children from birth will be able to access the toys and games and professionals from a range of organisations in education, health and social services will all be able to gain access to equipment to support children and families.
